  1. My elementary school library was the best, there were three rooms each a different colour and the librarian used to keep books aside that she thought would interest me before putting them on the shelves. I called her Lynn the lovely Librarian. She rocked.

  2. I have so many wonderful library memories! There was a tree house/reading nook in the kid's basement of my public library. And years later, I discovered Agatha Christie novels and read them all because the shelf was right next to the teen section.

  3. I grew up in NYC and whenever we moved every few years to a new apartment, after the boxes had been emptied, I searched for the nearest public library. Since my parents didn't buy me many books and I was an avid reader, my library card was used a lot, especially in the summer. I don't have one favorite memory, it's more a culmination of the different branches I remember most, oh, and of course, the kind faces of the librarians as they checked out my stack of books.

  4. I used to love going to the library in elementary school but was one of the few that had trouble reading still, so they paired me with a 5th grader to help me. Once a week we would go to the library and read together. It is my favorite library story- she helped me learn something that I think is extremely important- that books are escapes and adventures.

  5. I have so many! I would have to say the time I went to Barnes and Noble to meet Meg Cabot at an author signing! Plus when I helped with the Tail Waggin Tutors at my public library. Kids and dogs work so well together!

  6. I'm dangerous (aka expensive) when it comes to book stores. I remember one time I went into a Books A Million store and three hours later came out with nearly $300 in books. This was at least 10 years ago ... I haven't 'allowed' myself to go crazy like that since. :D

  7. As a librarian, I loved reading "Morris' Disappearing Bag" to my classes each year!

  9. I love my local library... it has many branches, the closest is the smallest, friendliest, and most welcoming. I love that place and so do my kids. Hope it starts a tradition for years to come.

  10. I just remembered that I still have the key to my locker at the local public library I worked at in high school. I wonder if those lockers are still there and if my neatly folded page vest is still inside it, just as I left it all those years ago.

  11. I am excited just at the idea of winning this giveaway. So much book goodness!
I remember my favorite library as a kid was actually in our local mall...I pretended to be one of the cool kids who liked to go to the mall all the time--I just spent the entire time lost in a book. :)

  12. I went to a book signing at a library that was out of town. Maggie Stiefvater, Tessa Gratton and Brenna Yovanoff. It was SO bloody amazing. They are so cute.

  13. I've always loved the library. The smell of the books is better than the smell of money, and the bookmobile was better than the ice cream man. The ice cream only lasted a few minutes, but a book lasted for at least a day.

  14. I had always frequented libraries. They were my favourite place to be in the whole world. When I started at a new school, I didn't know anyone, I spent my lunchtimes in the library with the extremely awesome librarians. Eventually I made new friends with other people who liked books, but I'll never forget the ladies who made my first year at school much better than it might have been. Plus, they always ordered any book I requested :)

  15. Haha, well just recently I went to our local bookstore, where the owner always has her adorable cat with her! So the cat just loves to wander around the bookstore and be petted, it's just so cute! Anyway, I was browsing the shelves and there was this coffee table-type thing behind me, and I turn around and the cat hops on to the table (which was about waist-high) and I pet the kitty. But then the cat just kinda stretches up and rests its front paws on my chest, and I was just like, "Okay...?" Then it just starts climbing on me and its practically sitting on my shoulder and I was just there holding it awkwardly! Gods, it was so weird! When the owner said her cat was friendly, she wasn't joking! LOL

  16. I loved my highschool library! It had those huge bookcases that rose all the way up to the ceiling that are made of solid wood. There were all kinds of books there and I especially loved the old tomes that you were only allowed to read there.

  17. I loved spending time at the school library. What with the books and the lovely woody polish smell- it was heaven! My friends had quiet a time raging me out of it during free periods. :)

  18. I've always loved the library and I'm sure its because of my mom. it seems like the memories of those who aren't with us always pop to mind first. I remember getting my first library card when I was in kindergarten and going every week during the summer to participate in story time and pick out new books. plus it didn't hurt we earned free pizza coupons if we read so many books :-)

  19. Over the summer when I had nothing to do during the day I would drive to Books-A-Million or Barnes & Noble just so I could get that initial smell of new book when you walk in the door. <3

  20. Wow. This is an awesome idea. So I'd have to say bookstore... we don't have one in our area. The closest is about 45 minutes away. The first time I took my girls to a B & N, I was so excited that they loved it, too (even the ones who didn't like to read) and we were there for over an hour (a big deal with little ones). It was great, and we came home with some great finds. :) Now we go to the library often!

  21. Hmmmm....
My best is probably when my favorite library reopened after it had closed down for refurbishment. It just looked and smelled so... beautiful and new!

  22. I spent so much time at our public library when I was younger and I devoured the books in the upstairs Children's Library. I remember being about 11 and getting slightly bored with re-reading all the "kids" books and longing for more and I'll never forget the day that my mom led me to the vast downstairs library section, which I always called the "grownups library", placed me in the YA section, and gave me the go ahead to discover a whole new world of books...AND I'll never forget being in my early twenties, coming home from college, venturing upstairs to the Children's Library once again and discovering the best reading material to combat stress and "grown-up" reading overload!

  23. I have new memories now that I have a niece. We frequent our local Library and bookstores. She gets so excited and just makes a beeline to books. I am glad to say that is a gene we share!

The day I took her to the Library to get her first Library card. *sigh* She thought she was big stuff. I have to admit...she is! She loves using that card, too!

When in I saw all of these stacks of colorful books. My mom told me not to pick a book from the bottom but being a little kid I did it anyway and the whole bookcase fell down. My mother and I ran out of there as fast as we could.

  25. I just have to say that I love the looks I get from just about everyone when I march around and out of the library with a stack of 10+ books in my arms. Been doing it since I could read and I haven't stopped yet! It also feels great when I can return the stack having read them all.
The first book I really remember getting from the library was the Corduroy bear book on a cassette tape which I then proceeded to listen to every night before bed for the two weeks she let me keep it. I can definitely say that I've always loved the library!

  26. Sarv, you know what a sucker I am for book give-aways.;-)

I know this year has been special for you and all the other members of the Class of 2K12. Our libraries and our bookshelves are all the richer for what you (plural) have written.

That being said, I wouldn't mind having my shelves enriched by ALL the offerings of the class. So here I am, entering another of your fabulous contests. Thanks.

  32. My mom would take my sister and I to the library every Saturday. We would always have so much fun picking out the books we wanted to read. I still love walking up and down the isles and looking for books.

  33. Before they recently remodeled our library they had a circle that stepped down into the floor in the children's area. I would make my mother take me for hours and sit and read my books as a kid. It was one of my favorite places in the world.

  34. My favorite bookstore memory was discovering Katherine Roberts books back in 2001 after finishing Harry Potter and I saw a sign saying "Love harry Potter, try this!" and I still read her books today :)
